    Many optimizations we try to add, like server side rendering, are fixing just bad code. Many web developers don't know the basics. First learn just HTML, CSS and native JS. Many new developers start with frameworks, and doesn't know the base. 20+ years ago, we have to learn the basics, and learn how to optimize for the browser and user. I also don't wanted to use e.g. jQuery, and later React, because it makes the web a lot time too fat. I love JS, but frameworks are nice, but makes the site fat, and you need more time to optimize.

    Im sorry, i couldnt hear over that massive toolchain you have XD Learning node === learning js, jquery, babel, webpack, react, electron, etc. etc. the list goes on.

    All that "optimization" and their payload is still like 4mb - 20mb. And lacks any sort of modern features. Websites in the 90's were small and didn't use frameworks either. There's a reason we don't build websites like we did in the 90's. Oh, and they DO use webpack.

    This feels wrong. Screen readers don't interact with DOM directly, they rely on accessibility tree created by browsers based on DOM. According to MDN, visibility hidden causes the element to be removed from the accessibility tree, so screen readers will not be announcing that element. So, visibility hidden is basically the same as display none as far as screen readers are concerned.

    I understand the metric described as a means to provoke the importance of technical communication. But the metric for tiering engineers here is just wrong. By definition, any engineer should surpass the 'senior' level of ability outlined here. If you cannot design and impliment new features from scratch and effectively communicate then you are not an engineer. Higher levels should just be more adept at these things, and their skills should allow them to be more effective.

    Interactive rebase for squashing commits. First, checkout your feature branch (make sure it's up to date with the target release branch, if not you'll need to do a git reset origin/RELEASE). To begin squashing commits, enter the command: git rebase -i HEAD~N Where N is the number of commits you wish to squash down to one. You'll be prompted to either pick or squash each commit, just mark the oldest commit with pick and the rest as squash. Proceed to merge into the release branch. If you ever need to reverse the merge of that feature, now you only have to worry about one commit. :)

  • @cwasonfauna
    @cwasonfauna 3 дні тому

    This is really good in yt short form because it auto replays. So even though like most git things I don't understand at first, it just hammers into my head until I think I get it. I think i've watched it like 25 times already lmao

    • @Pictor13
      @Pictor13 2 дні тому

      If you repeat the same 25 times with Git, instead of YT shorts, you'll get it a lot better ;) (and also learn when the tool screws up and how to fix it) Imho the video is not fully to the point (although the explanation of the achievement is quite clear) Basically rebase cherry-picks/replays/duplicates branches (rather than single commits), on top of some commit. *usually* to have linear history rather than diverging history.

  • @PaulSebastianM
    @PaulSebastianM 3 дні тому

    The explanation is confusing. Makes it seem like you are rewriting history on the target branch and totally ignore your current branch which is the one you want rebased.

    • @nandortorok5876
      @nandortorok5876 3 дні тому

      Correct me if I'm wrong, but rebase is supposed to do that, _I think_ . Primeagen even had sort of a "debate" with Theo, who has the same concern with this approach.

    • @stewbeef8808
      @stewbeef8808 3 дні тому

      "Then it will go back and check out current branch and update current branch to point at that latest commit" I don't know how you could hear that and get what you got. This makes complete sense to me.
